High Alumina Raw Materials

OAL is India’s largest manufacturer of Calcined and Fused Alumina products. We manufacture a wide range of Aluminous raw materials including Brown Fused Alumina, White Fused Alumina, Pink Fused Alumina, White Fused Mullite, Fused Zirconia Mullite (ZIRMUL), Fused Alumina-Magnesia Spinnel, Calcined Bauxite and High Alumina Refractory Cement. All these products cater to the needs of grinding wheel and refractory manufacturers. Fused Alumina is also used for shot blasting and cleaning purposes. This range of products is being manufactured at the Company’s facility in Porbandar (Gujarat).

The key raw materials for these products are Bauxite and Calcined Alumina. Bauxite is sourced primarily from the Company’s own mines located in the Jamnagar and Bhuj districts of Gujarat. Calcined Alumina is sourced from aluminium manufacturing companies.

Calcined Bauxite

Calcined Bauxite is obtained by calcining (heating) superior grade Bauxite at high temperature (from 850 °C to 1600 °C). This removes moisture thereby increasing the alumina content. Compared to an alumina content of about 57 % to 58 % in raw Bauxite, Calcined Bauxite has an alumina content of 84 % to 88 %. Calcined Bauxite is used as raw material for manufacturing fused alumina and high alumina refractories. We produce Calcined Bauxite for various applications such as refractory bricks, abrasives, steel polishing, etc. We are committed to provide consistency in quality and availability of product at extremely competitive prices.

Brown Fused Alumina

Brown fused alumina is manufactured by fusing high quality Calcined Bauxite and additives. It is a hard and tough material, used in manufacturing of grinding wheels (both vitrified and resin bonded) and coated products. These grains are also used in shot blasting as polishing media. Refractory grade BFA is used as a raw material in the manufacture of high alumina refractories. It is available in grit sizes as per FEPA for abrasive applications and group (cross) grits for refractory applications.

White Fused Alumina

White Fused Alumina is a high purity, synthetic mineral, manufactured by fusing pure grade Calcined Alumina and additives. OAL follows strict control over quality of raw materials and fusion parameters. Like Brown Fused Alumina, WFA is used in the manufacturing of grinding wheels (both vitrified and resin bonded) and coated products. These grains are also used for shot blasting purpose as polishing media and refractory grade WFA is used as raw material for high alumina refractories.

White Fused Alumina 98 (WFA 98)

White Fused Alumina is a high purity, synthetic mineral, manufactured by fusing Calcined Alumina and additives. OAL follows strict control over quality of raw materials and fusion parameters. WFA 98 is used as raw material for high alumina refractories.

Pink Fused Alumina

Pink Fused Aluminum Oxide is synthesized by melting alumina blended with chrome oxide. The amount chrome oxide added effects the colour and toughness of the grains. It is pink in colour and has extremely tough & hard grains.

White Fused Mullite

White Fused Mullite is a blend of Calcined Alumina and high purity Silica Sand fused under controlled conditions. It has low porosity, high melting point, excellent thermal stability, low reversible thermal expansion, high resistance to thermal shock and chemical corrosion at high temperatures. Fused Mullite is suitable for casting all type of metals and alloys. It is also used  in investment casting as shell building materials.

High Alumina Refractory Cement (HARB)

High Alumina Refractory Cement (HARB) is manufactured from Calcined Alumina and high purity lime. It is used as a binder for all types of castable refractories. OAL offers two ranges; HARB 70 and HARB 50 with minimum alumina content of 70% and 50% respectively.

Zirconia Mullite

Zirconia Mullite (ZIRMUL) is manufactured by fusing Calcined Alumina and Zircon sand. It is used in manufacturing refractories. Fused Mullite-Zirconia has a high thermal shock resistance which results in a product with excellent resistance to deformation under load. It also exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to molten glass and metals with very low iron and impurities.

Calcined Bauxite Aggregates

High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST)

  • High Friction Surface Treatments are pavement surface treatments that are composed of extremely hard, polish and abrasion resistant aggregates bonded using resin or polymer bonded material enhancing skid resistance and frictional characteristics of the pavement & preventing the loss of tyre traction.
  • The deterioration of the road surface is a significant factor in increasing traffic accidents, particularly on sharp curvatures, cross junctions, round –abouts, off ramps, pedestrian pathways & controlled stop locations.
  • On a typical road surface, vehicular accidents due to insufficient friction are tackled by a layered application of resin or thermoplastic bonded calcined bauxite broadcast aggregates in hot or cold poured process, thereby providing a durable and a long time solution. 
  • The inherent nature of extremely hard Calcined Bauxite aggregates  retains the shape during crushing &  resists shear stresses that lead to polishing, ensuring highest amount of skid resistance over the use of other naturally occurring aggregates.
